Interfering Mother In Law

When we come to be grandmothers the world of childcare changes drastically. The daily habit of production sure our children are fed, clean and ready for school is gone. Now we can enjoy our grandchildren and spoil them just a wee bit.

My daughter in law picked me and my sister in law up from the train station. She brought along my two grandsons one is age (1) one and the other is (5) five. I was happy to see them even if it was for the short trip from the train station to my home.

When the phone rang at nine o'clock the same evening I was surprised it was my five year old grandson. He was request to come to my house. After I spoke with his mom I found out he was being a real pest at home and was interfering with a extra task at home.

My daughter (his aunt) went to pick him up and bring him to his first overnight visit with his delighted grandmother.

In he bounced in my small house with a huge smile which lit up his big face and big brown eyes. He carried a small overnight bag and a Spider Man sleeping bag. Plus he was splattered on his face, arms and legs with distinct colored paint.

Somehow, it became the job of my sister in law (his great aunt) to pump up his sleeping bag. His aunt and great aunt each slept on a couch in the living room that night and my grandson slept in his sleeping bag on the floor. During the night five times sleeping bag tipped over and each time it happened laughter echoed nearby the room.

In the morning I wanted to feed my grandson. I offered him milk. He did not like my milk. I offered him toast. He took one bite and did not like my bread. I offered him cereal but of policy he did not like my cereal.

What to do. I cut up an apple along with a bowel of pretzels and a soft drink. Only a grandmother could get away with that food compound for breakfast for their grandchild.

Where can a child go to sleep covered in paint and eat such an enticing breakfast. When it was time for me to take him home he needed to be strapped into his booster seat. He managed to strap himself in correctly. But of policy his great aunt checked to make sure it was correctly fastened.

This is the suggestions from his grandmother and great aunt.

(1) Read to your children or grandchildren for as long as they will listen and sit still.

(2) Carry them as long as you can so they feel safe.

(3) Cuddle, cuddle, and cuddle.

(4) Kiss, Kiss and more kisses.

(5) Hug, hug, and more hugs.

(6) Only tell them "No" unless they of course need it.

(7) Get down on the floor and play with them without inspecting how you are going to get up.

(8) Observe your grandchildren when they play, eat and interact with their siblings and other children.

Just love your children and grandchildren. Love is free and we need to show it more often. Thank you for reading this article. Please feel free to read any of my other numerous articles on discrete subjects.
